I was seeing the Odyssey’s open quiz finals when calls started to torture me. I then turned my cell to silent mode to free myself from the continuous calls. I was seeing the finals with great pleasure after our team won the best team name (The credit for coming up with the team name “Hi. Leave a message after you hear a beep. We are the answering machine” goes to Visu and Sundar as they came up with this brilliant name). We received 6 1001 rupees gift voucher which are valid for 6 months. So after the finals got over we started for our place and suddenly Sundar got a call from his friend Raja Deepak saying that he failed in C#! It was a shock as we all were expecting DSP to be the paper in which almost everyone was to flunk. Then Visu gave his number and mine to Sesha and after few minutes he got a call from Sesha saying he cleared as usual. Then I got a call and to my surprise he said I flunked in Internet Programming. I did that paper very well and was sure to get good marks in that paper. So I am planning to apply for revaluation and hope they don’t play with me in this. they already played once with me in Discrete Mathematics where I was getting marks enough to clear me but they didn’t. So I just hope they don’t play with me this time also. I never had luck with the Anna Univ results.
Phew. Long live Anna University!

Even if I didn’t I’d still maintain what I said.

I did put in the effort to avoid arrears because higher studies always figured in my scheme of things.But having said that, if I did end up with an arrear, I’d not fret over it.
But as far as placements go, these results don’t have much significance.So it should not make any difference to those who just want to be placed.
I think these results will affect the on going placements. We still don’t know if the upcoming companies gonna ask for the 7th semester results or not. So for now we can’t say that these results won’t affect the on going placements.
Most of the students are already placed, so it barely matters.
For those who aren’t,too bad.They should have worked harder.
Aargh.. AU..!! But one thing da, the one who gave me pass mark in DSP will have a healthy and long life!! (avan kudumbame nalla irukum).. However, the other subjects are evaluated by some *#@#(%^ .. Hard luck machan, Don`t worry u ll clear it in the re-val.. and btw, somebody here said “They should have worked harder”.. Do that mean Only deserving people get arrear?? … oh WTF ?!
Srividya, they need not have worker harder. Just smarter.
Visu has a good point too. The corrections are quite random. But he seems to think that we don’t know he is the college topper.

Well that person was telling about the placements da. That person didn’t mean that only hard working people deserve arrear. It was about placement meaning that only hard work will make sure that one get placed. I think I am telling the right thing

I accept that there should be luck but that does not mean that anyone will get placed with that. Hard work is also needed.
Well, my personal opinion is that Anna University is gender biased. If not how come its mostly only the women who have passed in my class? Or maybe its the three different colours they use on the answer paper?

Our society has a lot of restrictions that don’t let women have many past times. So they end up at home studying.
I would once again like to repeat that hard work is not required, just smart work.

Btw, girls these days know exactly what they want.They have enough activities to keep themselves occupied.It’s just that we can multitask better.
We study hard and party harder..there is a time for everything .

Srividya, the reason for that is I have no lofty goals. Still, I have accomplished much.
Multitask better? What nonsense. Memorising is not studying. The girls in engineering colleges hardly have any hobbies, don’t know what’s happening in the world, don’t read papers, don’t read novels (Harry Potter does not count)… with very few exceptions.
You r right mark.their ultimate goal is to get a good percentage they don bother about what they read!!!!
Of course girls know what is happening around them..it’s just that your knowledge of girls is limited.
It’s lame to give excuses for your not working hard.
And btw, we read novels besides Harry Potter, read the newspapers and learn new things besides studying.
And who says we only memorize..you can’t do well in Math if you just memorize. If you are only against memorizing, you should have done well in atleast Math papers.
But that does not seem to be the case.So now your excuse changes and you claim that you find no use in studying Math.
Like someone pointed out elsewhere, there is no use in arguing just for argument’s sake.
Come out of your bubble and you’ll know that things aren’t the same as they probably were some time back.

Machan i totally agree with you da. And.. “you can’t do well in Math if you just memorize” ??? Absolutely not. I myself have seen my class gals memorizing the problems from G.Balaji, that too for “Probability” and Queuing Theory. Oh rats !!! and this AU buggers ask the same old problem. But still i will bravely attempt those and flunk in the middle..
Srividya, if it makes you happy I was not talking about you. You might be the exception. Can you say the same for the rest of the girls in class?
And Visu is right. Memorisation works in Math due to the way Anna Univ asks questions. It’s just like State Board 12th standard. I did pass all my Math papers eventually since time was running out. Math is useless. You think you will ever use Z transform at the workplace? Also, the other person who claimed that I was arguing just for the sake of arguing was in fact doing that very thing as can be clearly seen from the comments that followed there.
Oh by the way, I never claimed to work smart. I only said it was required.

Why do you limit yourself to the girls in our class? If that was the case, I’d just have to agree with you.Even the boys in our class are no better then.
All I wanted to point out was that sweeping statements like

Well I go partly with Marc and partly with you Vidya. In our country for sure most of the girls can’t come out of the old culture of house wife tradition that easily. Most families prefer their daughter-in law to behave like a good house wife and only few want her to show her talents. I go with Marc for the point that most of the girls in our country are still stuck to the memorising concept and its mainly because of our primary education. From the beginning most of the students are made to memorise the contents to reproduce the same during the exams and that concept is also followed by Anna University. So I don’t think that we can blame girls entirely for this.
I stand by my sweeping statement. It applies to a majority of the population.

@ all the dudes here, just becoz some gals memorize don’t blame all the gals. I never memorize things, at first i understand the concept then build my own stories. But i go with the concept some gals ( i meant SOME ) are homies where they keep studying always. But i have lot of hobbies like painting, learn music, reading novels, newspapers and so on. This Anna univ excepts only memorized answers, what to do eh?

Not all gals are mug pot dude! But of of the gals are in our state and I don’t know about other states. But if you ask me about Delhi I can say coz my friends are there and almost every gal there who is my friend is not a mug pot. I can give you the assurance for that. But in our state most of the gals are mug pots and I accept that. I said MOST and NOT ALL.

Well how many gals in our class do not memorise the book? Tell me. 4 or 5? That may be the maximum. But if you ask them they will tell they don’t which is a LIE. I know how they memorise because I see them every time before the exam. They memorise it with so much effort. You can ask others also about what I said now.

Some things must be memorised dude, the first 9 digits and 0, the alphabet, that’s good to memorise. It’s important, and essential even.

Gals over here then pls gimme a answer why gals get first mark in 12th public?And why do they fail to get the first mark at “TNPCEE” or some entrance examination??Do they need some specific book to read as they use in their public examination…..

Dude! There is a limit to memorise things. People can’t memorise everything. I accept that few things are meant to memorise but everything is too much.

Of course you guys have to memorise lots of stuff. You’re engineers, if you went and forgot the right formula to use while building some awesome design then innocent people could die! Horrible fellows, get back to studying.
If a formula was required we’d look it up. Which do you think is more accurate? Looking up stuff or using formulae committed to memory years ago?
I think looking up is far more better that memorized stuff.

Who said girls don’t get good marks in entrance examinations. Of course they do.In fact, in the GRE exams a large majority of girls who wrote from my center ended up getting 1400 scores.
Btw, learning things by rote is necessary at some level in every exam.
Aaargh the GRE !! Again you do the same stuff. Sit around and mug up a book full of vocabulary crap.. No wonder why gals get good marks.
Mugging up words in GRE does not fetch you marks.Attempt the exam and then talk.

Marc, the vocabulary stuff is for those whose vocabulary is inadequate. It is not needed by anyone who is educated in a good English medium school and has the reading habit.You go through it and you’ll understand what I mean. In fact, the words are a compilation of college-level vocabulary, commonly used across campuses in the United States.
