The usual unit test stuff is going to start from next week and this time it won’t go for 6 days as we have only 3 subjects which I feel a lot more better. I still don’t like the unit test concept much. We have to memorise the contents of the book and then reproduce the same in the exam. The old stories won’t work as usual. I have to start preparing for my first unit test. Monday is Mobile Computing and I still don’t know what is there in that subject. Have to start it soon. I also have to start preparing for CAT. I am planning to give it in the coming November to see where I stand in it. The data interpretation section is not that tough. I did few problems in that and I feel comfortable with it. But I have to work hard for verbal section and also for geometry, algebra. probability (I hate it a lot) and few other sections which I don’t like much in mathematics.
I saw the XAT paper (my brother attended almost every exam but sadly he could not make it in any as he had more pressure in his office. He hardly got time to study. But I must appreciate him for getting good results in almost every exam) and I felt it is not that tough. But more competition comes when the paper turns out to be easy. So I have to start working over the aptitude, verbal and other sections if I want to make it into a decent B-School It is really becoming hard to get a seat in a nice B-School as the competition for MBA is getting tougher. Almost everyone’s target is turning out to be MBA as one can earn almost triple or four times the amount he can earn from B.E. (If you get a seat in schools like GLIM, LIBA et) and around 10 times if you get into IIM or the schools next to IIM or equal to it. I HATE EXAMS
I also got information from Visu that Infosys has revised the salary for the 2008 batch students to Rs. 3,40,000 per annum. He said he colleagues got another offer letter mentioning about the revised salary and also the revised syllabus for training. The US recession is really affecting our IT sector. I think it will take 3 or 4 more years as usual to get back to normal state. I hope the stupid Engineering craze will fade due to this problem. But one sad news is that our juniors will really suffer a lot to get a job. Talented students will make it somehow but average students like me will really struggle. I think companies will start giving importance to aggregate from next year. This time itself CTS asked for 77 as aggregate for Anna University common placement and due to this many students were unable to attend it. For our seniors, CTS asked for 75 (If I am not wrong) as aggregate and according to sources they also allowed two standing arrears. I really want the craze over Engineering to fade away. New colleges are coming and people are starting it just for the sake of earning money. It seems there is no value for the word called EDUCATION.
P.S. Don’t comment saying what is the use if you study Math and blah blah. I don’t want such things because I gave up defending that Math is the only subject which can useful to you for a long time. I stand by this and I am not in mood to counter attack those who are against it. If you feel Math is of no use or the Math that we study is of no use to us then keep it with yourself. I don’t want to see or hear “Math which we study is not at all useful to us” or something similar in the sense to this ever. ![]()

Haha, Marc’s propaganda against Math has taken it’s toll on you:)
ATB for your MBA entrance exams.
Hey listen guys, Vinod is average student, stop your stories dude, hehe… DSP expert.
Dont tell me you actually listen to Marc and his stupid propaganda. Everyone knows he’s constantly barking. The Math they teach us isnt exactly useless. The problem is that they just teach us a bunch of formulas and we’ve got to learn to solve problems using them. We just do not encounter other engineering applications using them, when in fact there are a load of places where the concepts are going to be used. It’s the way Maths is taught that is the problem. Which is what Marc has been saying all along anyway, so he probably isn’t barking.
Oh well, let’s just agree that Marc’s always barking and leave it at that shall we?
Huh.. I can handle these exams no more… and unit tests huh?… I just don`t give a damn.. Enna da vaazhkai idhu ?
Anyway machan, all the very best for your Entrance exam(s).
Why did you suddenly start ranting about Math in this post? I wasn’t even going to talk about it. Besides, Sundar has effectively summarised the whole thing.
Everyone is going for a MBA also. These stupid ‘trends’ are annoying. There won’t be a problem if everyone did what they wanted. Instead they are all funnelled into engineering. We’re lucky that we got jobs with so little effort and the pay revision seems nice.
Since when did you become an average student? You never told me. Congrats da.
Math Rocks!!
But having said that all of us math lovers do very little to justify our interest. Very few of us know to formulate problems. Solving problems is not a big deal at all. (Well not that big a deal atleast.
) If you claim you like math, then you should be able to crack math modelling contests.
Oh, readin my comment now, it sounds a little offensive. No offense meant. I just stripped it of the sutomary pleasantries. I suck at math modelling too.
So I will change my last line to, if you claim you like math, then you should try and crack math modelling contests
(The should be able part doesn’t hold I guess)
I don’t know why people choose to do MBA after B.E Degree, when they very well know, they would get job with their B.E Degree and some got too.
Anyway, all the best vinod.
@Rachel
Aargh, for what else?
Money !!!
We are not engineers in the true sense. We are just pseudo engineers mass produced for the software industry. How many of us engineers can make stuff in our domians ? I can’t design a circuit for some given application. (On paper I can. But practically, I wouldn’t know how to.) That’s the sad state of affairs in AU.
@ Rachel
I don’t know about others but I am mainly trying for it because I don’t have full confidence with my present job in hand. I don’t know if I’ll get it at the end of our college life or not. And I am average student only. I don’t know what makes you all to think I am not an average student.
@ Visu
You can’t say that all go for MBA just for the sake of money. Few go for it for some other reason like me. Or for job satisfaction.
Vinoth:If you say you r an average student then think off ppl like me…No average at all!!!!!
@vinod:
Whatever da, still the reason is not “interest”.
And hey, you are an average student da. I agree.
If someone claims he/she wants to do an MBA, all I want to ask is, MBA in what ? Most people don’t have the slightest idea that you have streams in MBA. It’s just MBA and big bucks everything thinks about. As soon as you mention MBA, we visualise a fat paycheck. Few actually know what an MBA is/is for.
MBA means you get to wear an overcoat over your shirt and tie.
Sundar:Hmmmm…yengeyo poita machan!!!!!
dai naye did u blogroll me first!!!!!!!!!!!
MBA MBA! Money money!
@ Karthik
I know that there are lot of streams in MBA. I read about production and administration. I don’t know about other streams much but I am sure that there are more streams than we can imagine. A stream for a small thing.
@ Sundar
You are perfectly right dude!
@ Sriram
I blogroll your other blog. I didn’t know that you were using this one too. Anyway I’ll be switching to a new domain soon. So I’ll blogroll you there.
@ Marc
I think you want to do that for money. I prefer to study out of my own interest at least once in my lifetime and I feel MBA is the best thing for me. I am not fit for GRE as I am not good at vocabulary (MBA also requires that but I am sure that I can get into a nice B-School for sure). SO GRE is out of my list
@Vinod,
Dismissing an MS just because you think you are not good at vocabulary is lame. And for the record, GRE is much simpler compared to CAT ( assuming you are taking CAT. GMAT would also require a good vocabulary I believe. But then you know that yourself.)
Why don’t you do GATE instead
if you don’t like GRE
Karthik, you are hereby banned from this blog for using too many acronyms in one comment.
Dood.
Anyway, i don’t waan study any degree further right now. But earn, get enough money & spend for the degree that’s of my interest ( trying to avoid degrees with math subject ). If i don’t find any degree without math, then am sure to continue earning ;D.
P.S: Can anyone suggest me that kinda degree. If not, no problem pls don’t start off saying you can’t survive without maths or so.
@ Karthik
Higher studies in engineering? Bah. Well CAT and other MBA exams do not require that much vocabulary compared to GRE. I saw the question papers of XAT, CAT and few other exams as my brother took it last year. So I know that I have better chances in doing MBA tests compared to GRE!
@ Sundar
Yes dood whats the matter?
@ Rachel
I think there are courses which do not require math.
wats going on here?? starting from unit tests, u ppl talking bot MBA and GRE!!!! scene da vinod
I have done graduation in BA (Pass) course from Delhi University through distance learning programs. I have also done I.T.I (Electronics) which is lower than diploma. Can Presently I am working in Reliance Communication Ltd through outsource agency. For a better growth in communication industries I must have a higher degree of education specially B. Tech or MBA. I was a average student when I was learning in school as well as college. My math is too poor to explain it. Now those days I am trying to learn basic concept mathematics. I think B.Tech is much tough than higher degree because there should be required much knowledge for mathematics.
Please guide me properly to consider my knowledge in mathematics:-
Can MBA is suitable for me?
Which stream will be better for me, in regard of, I want to work in telecommunication industry, network branch. Or please guide me in this regards
How I obtain provide syllabus for each stream?
How I obtain contents of study for each stream?
To do MBA you need to clear the test they conduct like CAT, SNAP, XAT, GMAT, JMET and lots more. All these exams require math skill. You must have good math knowledge to do MBA or B.Tech.
I don’t know about telecommunication industry nor network branch. I am not an expert to give advice. But I know that for MBA you need to have good math skill.
